THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN FIRST LADY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama, (born January 17, 1964) is the wife of Barack Obama, current President-elect of the United States and former Senator from Illinois. She is poised to be the first African-American woman to spot the title First-Lady.

Barrack has called his wife Michelle "the most quintessentially American woman I know." Obama's roots can be traced from slavery through reconstruction to the great Northern Migration.

Some of Michelle's relatives still reside in South Carolina.Her family is of African American heritage, descendents of Africans of the American Colonial Era. Michelle

Michelle's earliest known relative is her great-great grandfather Jim Robinson, born in the 1850s, who was an American slave on the Friend field plantation in South Carolina. The family believes that after the Civil War he remained a Friend field plantation sharecropper for the rest of his life and that he was buried there in an unmarked grave.

.After completing her formal education, she returned to Chicago where she was born and grew up on the South Side of Chicago and graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School and accepted a position with the law firm Sidley Austin.

Following law school, she was an associate at the Chicago office of the law firm Sidley Austin. At the firm, she worked on marketing and intellectual property. Subsequently she became Executive Director for the Chicago office of Public Allies, a non-profit organization encouraging young people to working on social issues in (NGO’s)non profit groups and government agencies.

In 1996, Michelle served as the Associate Dean of Student Services at the University of Chicago, where she developed the Community Service Center. 2002, she began working for the University of Chicago Hospitals, as executive director for community affairs and, later in May, 2005, as Vice President for Community and External Affairs. She continued to hold the position during the primary campaign, but cut back to part time in order to spend time with her daughters as well as work for her husband's election.

With the development of her husband as a prominent politician, she has become a part of pop culture. Michelle was featured in the May 2006 edition of the Essence magazine been among the 25 most inspiring women world wide. Other listings include the July 2007 Vanity Fair listing which put her among the top 10 World’s Best Dressed People.

Although Michelle Obama has campaigned on her husband's behalf since early in his political career by handshaking and fund-raising, she did not relish the activity at first.

But she always supported the husbands ambitions by looking after there daughters and being by her husbands side all through.

Her admirers complement that she combines the poise of Jackie Kennedy wife John F Kennedy with the brain of Hillary Clinton wife of Bill Clinton and the uncomplicated charm of Laura Bush wife of gorge W Bush. She played a big role in election of barrack Obama as a source of inspiration to him and other people who looked at her as a role model to be emulated
